Knuckle boom cranes for service trucks have just leaped into the 21st century.

JOMAC Ltd., an Ohio-based service truck crane and aluminum truck body manufacturer has released a line of knuckle boom cranes that can be mounted anywhere on a truck body.

Knuckle boom cranes have traditionally been restricted to behind-the-cab mounting configurations. JOMAC Ltd. utilizes worm gear or planetary gear rotation systems instead of a rack and pinion, allowing knuckle boom cranes to be mounted on the rear corner or in other custom installation positions, as well as behind-the-cab.

The JOMAC knuckle boom cranes operate on a significantly lower pressure hydraulic system when compared other articulating cranes in the industry. By limiting the operating pressure to 2500-2750 PSI, JOMAC provides a knuckle boom option that increases the crane life-cycle. Use of standard American materials and components allow owners to more readily obtain crane service parts, which reduces the maintenance and overall operating costs.

Fritz Ekstam, JOMAC’s head of crane engineering, adds, “The lower operating pressure of the cranes allows for the use of components and systems that are more commonly and readily available in the American market, keeping costs lower and enhancing access to replacement parts.”

With this release, JOMAC Ltd. becomes among the few knuckle boom crane manufacturers that develops, engineers, and manufacturers their products 100% in the United States.

Sales director Carlee Leslie expands, “We really feel we have a product that the market is demanding. Too often, we encounter people that have to wait weeks for parts for their articulating and knuckle boom cranes (due to overseas manufacturing). By manufacturing our products in the United States, we can apply a more hands on approach to our engineering, manufacturing, and part availability. Everyone wins.”
